What: Adult Christian Formation (Education)
When: Most Mondays, September – June, 6:30 PM, for 34 weeks
Where: St. Paul’s
Why: Every baptized person is called to ministry, whether it be the Ministry of Doing, for example, feeding the needy, or the Ministry of Being, for example walking faithfully with a friend as she faces a serious illness. The Education for Ministry (EfM) program provides lay people with the knowledge and skills to discern and carry out that ministry. EfM offers an opportunity to discover how to respond to the call of Christian service.
Details: EfM is a program of theological education-at-a-distance of the School of Theology, University of the South (also known as Sewanee). Students sign up one year at a time for this four-year program. It covers the basics of a theological education in the Old and New Testaments, church history, liturgy and theology. It also teaches through experience several methods for theological reflections. These methods give us the tools to examine our own actions and beliefs and their relationship to our Christian faith and the world around us, so that we can become effective ministers.
The program grants a certificate at the completion of four years and 18 Continuing Education Units for each year’s work.
Tuition assistance is available and need not be a barrier to participation.
